A very intriguing underwater reality took over the bottom of the seas in Portimão, far in your diving schools in Lisbon , the paper Público reported . Four Navy ships are now the backdrop to the Ocean Revival underwater park and are the comfortable home of many species of snails, octopuses, mackerels and additional fish and mollusks. Ships are still a huge attraction for hundreds of divers from several countries.
One year after being sunk, under the watchful eye of many dive school instructors in Lisbon and across the country, Navy ships - a corvette, ocean patrol, frigate and oceanographic vessel - today have the assignment of to sponsor the marine life - fauna and flora - of the region and to constitute a flourishing tourist attraction.
Underwater Park Portimão welcomes lots of diving fans from Lisbon and the whole country.
Opened by the end of October 2012, the underwater park is situated 30 meters deep, where pontificam heaps of oysters, barnacles, porkfish, sea bream and sea bass. The surrounding flora and fauna are in such a way in symbiosis with the ships that it's no longer feasible to distinguish the original color of these ships. The boats were organized in such a way as to facilitate the entry of professional divers and pupils out of diving schools in Lisbon.
It needs to be recalled that the average time of stay at 30 meters doesn't exceed 40 minutes, which suggests several visits for a full knowledge of the vessels. The creation of a comprehensive ecosystem in the region of ships was a matter of weeks. The mussels that were attached to the hooves attracted the octopuses and the sea currents did the remainder.
The four sunken ships now house dozens of marine algae, fish and shellfish species
Only in the Zambezi are far over two dozen distinct species brought on from the larvae which were being sent from one vessel to another. The underwater park is acting as an artificial reef, which is helping to increase biodiversity in that area. Just 'Oliveira e Carmo' is home to 22 species, such as sea bream, porpoise, porpoise and barnacles. And others less here known to the public.
However, other species have been seen near the ships, especially moonfish, crow fish, lilies and even little dolphins. Proof that individual doesn't always impact character in a negative manner and when interventions have been well planned and implemented, they may be very powerful and have favorable consequences in the areas where they are inserted, if within the range of a dip in Lisbon or even the 30 meters deep, in Portimão, Algarve.
